Convention Recap —Remarkable Convention Draws More Than 3,600 Attendees

AGC members meet in San Antonio for 88th Annual Convention

AGC’s 2007-2008 officers began their tenure during the convention. (L-R): Zack Burkett, Zack Burkett Co., treasurer; Douglas E. Barnhart, Barnhart Inc., senior vice president.; Steve Massie, Jack L. Massie Contractor, president;  J. Doug Pruitt, The Sundt Cos., vice president.

More than 3,600 people attended AGC’s 88th Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas, on March 21-24. The convention not only boasted a record number of attendees but also provided the best in seminars, education, training, legislative updates, awards programs and social events. San Antonio displayed its famous hospitality and energy from the Riverwalk to the NCAA tournament games at the Alamodome, which added to the excitement of the convention.

Diverse sessions provided attendees with information on topics ranging from potential upcoming environmental regulations and how to recruit and retain the next generation of employees, to corporate wellness programs and the importance of a getting graduate degree.

Attendees also received the first look at the fourth edition of the Construction Inflation Alert, which provides a short-term and long-term examination of the expected volatility for construction inputs and outlines implications for future costs for building, highway and other heavy construction.

Convention sessions and awards events touted the highest quality of speakers, with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters, Golf Announcer David Feherty, Presidential Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, Federal Highway Administrator Rick Capka and U.S. Brigadier General Jeffrey Dorko, U.S. Army Engineer Division.

Here is a sampling of the highlights:
