Project Portfolio November/December 2008 Kansas City Caterpillar Dealer’s New Home Dean Machinery Co., a longtime Caterpillar dealer in Kansas City, Mo., opened its new 25-acre headquarters campus in October. The facility encompasses two major buildings with more than 180,000 sq ft of space—three times the size of the company’s old facility—and houses additional service bays that can accommodate up to 25 medium-sized machines at one time. The company, founded in 1955 by Lester Dean Sr., serves customers in 45 counties in eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Today, it is managed by Lester’s daughter and company president Lori Dean, who oversees more than 320 employees at Dean Machinery’s 11 regional locations. “A bridge-building contractor is going to have vastly different equipment and support needs than a truck-fleet manager or a row-crop farmer,” she says. “Our new headquarters demonstrates that we’re still expanding to meet the growing demands of our customers.”
